Art Arrives in Virginia!

We happily hang art purchased locally or go help clients find a place for a piece they've fallen in love with.  I love knowing where a piece we loved and selected for the gallery ends up!  We shipped this 48" square piece by Melissa Payne Baker out last week on a long journey to Virginia. It arrived safely yesterday and the happy owner immediately hung it and texted us this pic.  LOVE IT!!!

(Thank you to Jordan at the Hixson UPS location for helping us get it there safely and under the freight requirement!  You were a life saver after our other experience!!!!)

Painting, painting and more painting!

Oh boy, it is soooo crazy busy at the gallery.  I decided to repaint the little side walls yesterday morning...do a little sprucing up for the Gallery Hop next weekend.  Thought I'd knock it out before we opened....well, I forgot how busy labor day weekend is!  Happily forgot!  Before I had paint cans open, I had a client knocking on the door needing a birthday gift quickly.  It didn't stop.  I looked like a crazy lady in splattered paint clothes all day.  But, we had a great time and met so many nice people including tourists from Minnesota, Alabama, Georgia, and Indiana folks who've just moved here.  All around great day!  I'm heading over now to get an early start on the wall painting.  Stop by today if you have a chance...there are new paintings propped everywhere for the show we open next weekend.  Its jumbly, messy and very comfy there but you can get first pick of the new work!

Busy, busy here!  Mom and I have been meeting artists almost everyday getting the artwork gathered for the gallery hop. (Dont forget....Sept 11 from 2 - 9!)  This morning we're heading over to Erin Chapin's studio to check out her new work.  She's been incredibly popular for us this summer!  I'm looking forward to seeing what she has ready for the fall.  I'll post some new images here and on facebook.

We've already received work from Susan Doubleday, Toby Penney, Georgia Nagle and Jo Ann Bracey.  Georgia and Jo Ann are both showing some work with a new twist.  Susan brought new pastels and collage (check out "Looking for Dinner" above - I love it!!!)  I'm looking forward to getting the reaction from all the new work!

Lisa Staggs & Erin Chapin in the Chattanooga Times Free Press

I hope everyone saw the Arts section in Sunday's Chattanooga Times Free Press!  Great article by Ann Nichols on the summer show.  We got Erin's paintings last week and Lisa brought hers yesterday.  I can't wait to get them hung.  Erin brought several new pieces from her bird series.  She'll be bringing in new pieces from her koi series in the next couple of weeks.  I'm looking forward to seeing these!  Lisa brought new pieces painted in Sequatichie Valley.  Her paintings are lovely and I love the frame selection.  Stop by and take a peak!

Another note....The funny thing about the presentation in the paper is that Lisa's piece is a 5x7 and Erin's is a 24x36....

Summer Art Workshops/Camps for Children

We are scheduling painting workshops for children now for the summer. Our workshops run from Tuesday - Thursday from 9-12 and are $125 (10% off for sibling), which includes all supplies. We use only quality art supplies and create works on stretched canvas, canvas board and occasionally wood. I encourage a thoughtful approach to painting. So, the children are asked to sketch before painting. I work with each child to ensure success, which is why I only take up to 8 children at a time. They will be asked to complete some particular paintings from life, but they are given ample opportunity to explore their own ideas too. In 3 days, they'll usually complete somewhere in the range of 5-12 pieces (depending on the age group). They always complete at least one 16X20 piece. Generally, the children haven't painted quite this big before and it is lots of fun!!!

To sign up your child, please give me a call. I've found it works best if parents have a group of 4 to 8 children in the same age range and let me know what weeks work best. It is hard for me to create schedules around the many other camps and vacations. I schedule on a first come basis.

Please call me for particulars and questions. 423-648-0533. Thanks!

Wet Canvas - Painting Party with a Palette Knife

Grab your friends, family or come alone & create a masterpiece with step-by-step instruction. I'll walk you through painting one of the pre-selected pieces with a palette knife. This is a fun way to try the palette knife. No painting experience necessary!

You can schedule a private party with 5-12 participants. Periodically, I'll schedule "open" painting times so call to sign up! For 11x14, $35 per person, supplies included. For 16x20, $50 per person, supplies included. Other paintings include a cupcake, which is fun for a teen party. Call me for more information!

Susan Doubleday Pastel Workshop this week

Susan Doubleday taught a wonderful workshop this week! I hope all of the participants had as much fun as I did! We brought our pastels and paper and created wonderful landscapes and still life "paintings" for 3 days. Susan has agreed to teach again later this spring. I'll let everyone know the details as soon as we set a date!
